ABOUT THE INTERNET NAVIGATOR ONLINE COURSE

The Internet Navigator is a Web delivered information literacy course. It teaches basic research techniques using libraries and the Internet that will help students succeed in college and in their future careers. The course is intended for first year college and university students, high school students making the transition to higher education, or returning students who need to update their research skills. This course may be taken for one credit from a number of colleges and universities or used for independent study. The course content was developed by a team of librarians from academic libraries in Utah based on the ACRL Information Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education and other documents.

This course was first taught in Winter 1996. Original development of this course was funded by a Higher Education Technology Initiative Grant with support from the Spencer S. Eccles Health Sciences Library.

The content and and web design were developed by the Information for Life Taskforce, which grew out of the UALC Reference/Library Use Instruction and Distance Education Committees, and particularly from the former Task Force for Information Literacy Competencies of the Distance Education Committee.

Course content is updated on a continuous basis by members of the UALC Information for Life Taskforce.

Please contact Nancy Lombardo with comments or questions about the development of the Internet Navigator course.
