Module 3 - Information Navigator - Health Track
Objectives
Students will be able to:
- use reference tools, online catalogs, article databases and
search engines in order to find information resources for research.
- create effective search statements in order to find relevant information on their topic using online catalogs, article databases and search engines.
- refine search statements using Boolean logic and other advanced search techniques in order to find focused information.
- access other types of information including government documents, media, and special collections in order to expand their research resources.
- evaluate Web sites in order to select the best possible resources related to their topic.
- distinguish between scholarly and popular resources in order to utilize them appropriately.
- take careful notes while reading their resources in order to credit authors for original ideas, facts and quotes.
- properly document their research sources using MLA or APA style
guides in order to create a bibliography.
- write an annotation in order to clearly describe and evaluate a specific resource.
- conform to the "code of student rights and responsibilities" in order to present the materials they have collected for their research project in an appropriate, fair, honest and respectable manner.

| INTRODUCTION |

These lessons were created to assist college and university students
in learning to do academic research. Each student will complete
a series of exercises and a research assignment.
Each section of this lesson will introduce you to very important
tools and techniques for finding information. This lesson will help
you become "information literate". Read through each of the following
sections and begin to identify resources onyour topic for your project.
The following sections of this lesson introduce you to concepts and techniques for conducting, evaluating and properly using source material in your research project. Read the following sections and complete the Module 3 Assignment.
