Module 1 - Internet as an Information Resource

Objectives

Students will be able to:
  • complete the Module 1 Assignment to share previous research experience and expectations for the course.
  • understand how the Internet is structured and used to understand its usefulness and limitations as an information source.
  • use an Internet email program in order to communicate electronically with instructor, colleagues and others.
  • locate an electronic mailing list related to their topic in order to communicate with and learn from others who share their interest.
  • use a Web browser as a tool in order to find and read information on the Internet.
  • use a URL in order to go to a specific Web site.

INTRODUCTION


This module explains how the Internet is an important and popular means of gathering information for researchers. Electronic mail is one of the most popular, efficient, and effective tools on the Internet to communicate and share information. Mailing lists, another important and popular means of sharing information, will also be discussed. This module will also discuss the World Wide Web and how it is one of the fastest growing and largest means of sharing information on the Internet.

Tip: As an Internet Navigator student, you will be expected to communicate with your instructor via electronic mail.
